Many of the most popular weight loss programs actually have you eating up to 6 times a day. Great news if your not the type to be able to starve yourself which quite frankly none of us can do for the long term.
See below for tips on how to eat more to lose more.
Eat more often. Up to 6 times a day is the best way to go. The general plan will be breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner, then night time snack. However, that doesn't mean you get to have a really big breakfast, lunch & dinner and it certainly doesn't mean you get to eat junk snack foods. Your portions should be considerably smaller about the size of the palm of your hand for a snack, and about double that for a main meal. However you should fell satisfied all day long. Many of the popular programs around will show you exactly what to eat, the home delivery weight loss programs will even deliver the food you need.
Never ever skip breakfast. If you skip breakfast you don't give your metabolism the kick start it needs to keep your body burning fat all day long. In addition your brain and other bodily organs need fuel to function properly. Skipping breakfast is a sure fire way to put on weight as your more likely to snack on the wrong sorts of foods throughout the day. So get into a routine of eating a healthy breakfast which should consist of a fibre rich, low sugar food such as Weetbix or something similar.
Rather than going cold turkey and cutting out all your favourite bad foods try substituting healthier choices for the foods you love. For example, try a low fat cream cheese or a low fat cottage cheese instead of high fat spreads or dips. Substitute celery sticks instead of chips with dips or a handful of walnuts or almonds instead of peanuts. Simply remove the skin from chicken and turkey and cut all visible fat off red meats for lower fat options.
Try eating high protein snacks or high fibrous fruits as snacks instead of more common snacks such as chips or chocolate bars. High protein and high fibre will help regulate your blood sugar levels making it less likely for you to suffer from sugar cravings.
Although fruits and vegetables are considerably good for you not all fruits and vegetables are created equal. Fruit juice for example has all the sugar and none of the fibre so when your trying to lose weight go easy on the fruit juice. Better to eat the whole orange or the whole apple as a snack than just have the juice.
In addition water rich vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, mushrooms and peppers are high in nutrients and very low in calories so you can eat them all day long. In contrast high starchy vegetables such as corn, peas and potatoes should be eaten in moderation.
